A Kinabatangan River trip offers an immersive experience in Borneo’s wildlife and rainforest. Arrive and settle into your riverside lodge, then embark on an afternoon river cruise to spot wildlife such as proboscis monkeys and pygmy elephants. Start the next day with an early morning river cruise, followed by a jungle trek or wetland visit. After lunch and relaxation, enjoy another river cruise or night safari. Conclude your adventure with a final morning cruise or walk before departing, leaving with unforgettable memories of Borneo’s rich biodiversity.

DAY 1 Arrival - Kinabatangan River - Overnight at Kinabatangan (Dinner)

Pick up from Sandakan Hotel or Sandakan Airport and transfer to Mango Garden Restaurant, Sepilok. At 12:30 hrs, transfer to Tanini Kinabatangan, located at the Lower Kinabatangan River Sanctuary. The 2-hour journey passes through Kota Kinabatangan town and oil palm plantations. After a 3-minute boat ride from Kampung Bilit jetty, you’ll arrive at the Lodge, where welcome drinks and a brief orientation will be provided. Check-in to your lodge. At 16:00 hrs, enjoy an afternoon boat cruise along the river to spot wildlife and birds. Return to the Lodge for dinner in the jungle, followed by a guided night walk to see nocturnal creatures. Overnight at the Lodge.

DAY 2 Kinabatangan River - Overnight at Kinabatangan (Breakfast/ Lunch/ Dinner)

Wake up at 05:00 hrs to catch the misty Kinabatangan River, then join a 06:00 hrs boat cruise to spot wildlife such as Proboscis Monkeys, Leaf Monkeys, Macaques, Gibbons, and possibly Orangutans. Return for breakfast at 07:00 hrs. At 09:00 hrs, embark on a Jungle Walk with a professional guide to explore insects and birds, and follow the path of the newly discovered Borneo Pygmy Elephants. Return to the Lodge for lunch at 12:00 hrs. After a rest, enjoy another afternoon boat ride at 16:00 hrs to spot more wildlife along the river. Return before dinner at 18:00 hrs. After dinner, take a guided night walk along a different route. Overnight at the Lodge.

DAY 3 Morning Cruise / Check out / Departure (Breakfast)

Be ready to wake up to the calls of gibbons and hornbills. At 06:00 hrs, enjoy a morning river cruise to spot more birds and wildlife. Return to the Lodge for breakfast at 07:00 hrs. Check-out is at 08:30 hrs, then head back to Sandakan, with a drop-off at your accommodation or Sandakan airport. (Recommended flight departure at 1400hrs onwards)
